The residents of the Golden Age Home on St. Joseph’s Avenue in Vineyard Town, St. Andrew began their Easter celebrations this past Tuesday afternoon, April 16, with an Easter Treat organized by the Rotary Club of St. Andrew North (RCSAN).
Members of the RCSAN arrived at the Golden Age Home bearing boxes of Easter bun and tins of cheese, necessities for a proper Jamaican Easter celebration, and bottles of juice. They also brought gifts of clothing for the residents, 12 bags in total, which RCSAN Club President Lori Chuck presented to the staff.
Kecia Taylor, RCSAN Director for Service Projects, got the afternoon’s Easter Celebrations off to a rousing start as Choral Director, leading the residents through varied well-known Christian choruses. While they sang, half of the remaining RCSAN members busied themselves preparing bun and cheese sandwiches and cups of juice for the residents; the remaining RCSAN members promptly delivered the tasty snacks to residents in their rooms who were unable to attend the festive Easter gathering, and to the resident in the gathering. The Golden Age Home’s Supervisor Ms. Palmer thanked the RCSAN members on behalf of the staff and residents, for taking the time to visit and share Easter joy with them.Saving the best for last, as the RCSAN members took their leave Club President Lori Chuck presented Ms. Palmer with Christian symbols of Easter for the Golden Age Home - palm crosses which had been blessed. Easter celebrates the resurrection of Christ between the ending of March and April each year. The celebration culminates on the weekend between Good Friday and Easter Monday. The RCSAN team departed, wishing the residents and staff a holy and blessed Easter.
