In celebration of its 36th anniversary of “doing good in the community”, the Rotary Club of St Andrew North served 200 meals to the homeless and others in need at the Good Samaritan Inn, near Heroes Circle in Kingston on Sunday, April 30.
Fourteen members of the club - assisted by friends and student volunteers from UTech and Alpha Girls School - served the meals.
In addition, the Rotary Club of St Andrew North handed over items of clothing; pillows; shoes; loaves of bread; as well as cases of tinned sardines, mackerel, corned beef and vegetables towards the Inn’s ongoing feeding programmes.
According to Elder Vermont Murray, Project Leader, since being established in 2007, The Good Samaritan Inn has served 100,000 meals free of charge to members of the surrounding communities in need, in addition to providing health care services.
President of the Rotary Club of St Andrew North, Carlton Cowell, expressed gratitude to Grace Kennedy, Best Dressed Chicken, Wisynco, Island Grill and Honey Bun for providing products valued at $200,000 towards the meals and products which were distributed at the Inn.
